The 2010 Aussie Millions kicked off today as the poker players head down under to clash in the opening event. Day 1a of the $1,100 No Limit Hold’em opening event kicked off today in what looks to be an exciting stop in Australia. The events will go all the way until January 31st when an Aussie Millions Farewell Party will take place. Nonetheless at the end of day 1a the chip lead belongs to Xen Xenofontos. Not only did Xen jump out to an early in this event he also provided us with a more than unique name. Day 1b is set to begin tomorrow as new players will hit the felt to make their run at victory.

Viewers that want to watch the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure won’t need a ticket to the Bahamas. The Poker Channel Europe has announced that they will air live coverage of the remaining events still taking place. The High Rollers event and the World Cup of Poker will both be on display for the everyone to watch. The World Cup of Poker will air January 13th which is tonight, and the High Roller event will be set to go live Thursday January 14th. Make sure you stay tuned this evening when the tournaments hit the TV sets at 9 P.M. GMT.

The ‘Olympics’ of poker is currently taking place at the Atlantis Hotel and Resort in the Bahamas. With 54 countries in the mix and 5 players per team, the tables were filled with the pride of nations. The countries that were left to see the finals consist of the United States, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Finland. Norway, Germany, and Italy. The countries will continue to battle until only one country is left standing. Though were only playing cards it’s time to go to ‘war’.

The poker community lost a respected member this past week as poker pro Amir Vahedi passed away. On January 8th, Vahedi reportedly died due to diabetes complications. Vahedi was apart of the final table that initially started the poker boom that we see today. Though Chris Moneymaker went on to win the event people remember Vahedi for his out going personality. Vahedi will always be remembered. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.

Once again there is another ‘youngest ever’ to win a live major event. Months after Joe Cada set the record for being the youngest player to win the WSOP main event, Harrison Gimbel becomes the youngest player ever to win the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. After Gimbel cracked Greenstein’s aces with his 64 off suit (sadly it was pre-flop), Gimbel went on cruise control to take home the first place prize of $2.2 million. Gimbel battled Ty Reiman in heads up play before taking home the PCA trophy and the money. Although disappointed in a second place finish, Reiman walked away with $1,750,000.
