Maybe you don’t know this city but the city of Macao is one of the richest cities in the world. The city is under control of the Chinese government but as Hon Kong, the city is under a special regime called special administrative region. The city is today really popular through its casino but the city has a long history.

The creation of this administration took place at the beginning of the XVI century, during the colonisation times, and the Portugal inherited of the city. Through the Portugal, the city became very prosper. The Portugal used this city as a harbour between the European continent and the Asiatic one (Japon). The city was very proper at the end of the XVI century and the beginning of the XVII century.

In 1887, Chine accepted that Portugal owns this part of Asia and signed a treaty to admit it and declared it to the rest of the world and in China too. But, after one century of domination, Chinese people wanted to get back this part of their country and a revolution took place. In 1966, Portugal renounced to the city and China got its part of China back.

Today, the city records a very fast growth and the city is more important that Las Vegas today. The gambling games benefits of this city are more important than in Las Vegas. The tourism and the prostitution are also quite important in Macao. A numbers of writers wrote about this city and some of them are fascinated and some of them just don’t like it.

The criminality was a curse in the city of Macao and through that the country and the city couldn’t get more tourists because the curse was quite important in this part of the country. The criminality took place under the Qing Dynasty. With the time most of the gangs disappeared. The most popular and dangerous ones were the Sap Sei Keigang and the Soi Fong one. They received money through intimidation. They used to intimidate shops, casinos and any commercial market. Drugs and laundry money were also a great way to get money. In the 90’s, murders was quite common in Macao but after the arrest of the chief of the big gang Sap Sei Kei. Criminality was concerning only the gang, it was violent but civil people weren’t involved in these crimes. The city became saver and the police used the absence of the big boss to eliminate most of the gang.

In 1998, the murder rate went down by 70% and the crimes today are not anymore violent. Gang are still present but the city now is safe and tourist can enjoy casinos and market without be scared of being killed.
